Frequently Asked Questions
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a 2000 year old medicine used as a means to restore balance to the body, thereby promoting health. Ultra fine needles are painlessly inserted just below the skin, stimulating the body's own healing response.
What is medical massage?
Specifically, the massage technique that I employ is called tui na, which translates as "push, grasp". Tui na is used in Chinese medicine to re-align all layers of the musculoskeletal system.
What conditions can be treated using acupuncture?
Acupuncture can be an effective treatment for structural misalignment, orthopedic problems and sports injuries, as well as internal complaints such as headaches, high blood pressure or infertility. It is my belief that, given the right conditions, the body is capable of overcoming even the most stubborn ailments. Acupuncture and body work are also effective means of improving the otherwise healthy body's function.
Is acupuncture best used alone or in conjunction with other treatments?
It has been my experience that acupuncture works best when combined with an entire rehabilitative program that includes some form of manual structural adjustment and posture reconfiguration. I will also provide you with some simple exercises tailored to your condition that you can take home in order to speed recovery and bring lasting relief.
What should I wear when going to the acupuncturist?
If you bring a pair of shorts and a tee shirt youll be fine. Acupuncture is done in a clinical environment and draping is provided when necessary.
How soon can I expect results?
Result times vary according to conditions. A great majority of cases see results immediately. My goal is to fix your problem and to prevent it from recurring.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans do cover acupuncture. Find out if your plan has coverage. We will provide you with a superbill containing diagnostic codes for insurance reimbursement.
